    Parent Consultations

Thank you to everyone who has already booked a parent consultation.  Bookings are through parentmail this year, which should be quick and easy to do.  As explained in the previous parentmail, to keep everyone safe, we will not be holding face-to-face consultations and all meetings will be over the phone.

Teachers will use the contact information held on our system to call parents. This will be the phone number registered under the primary carer.  If you know this information is out of date, please let the office know on Monday.

We have allowed ten minutes for each call and we will need to stick to these timings in order to ensure parents are not kept waiting. The call will probably come through as ‘number unknown’ so please be prepared to take the call.  If the phone is not answered, teachers will try two further times during the first 5 minutes.  After that, it will not be possible for the parent consultation to take place.  Please do not call the school, as no one will be taking general calls during the parent consultation period.

    Alien Day

Year Two will be having their Alien Day on Wednesday.  We are looking forward to everyone dressing up and to welcoming back Badger Class. There will be no PE for year two on Alien day, so the children do not need to bring in any additional clothing.

    MUFTI DAY

At this time of year, we would usually be supporting 'Turning Tides' through a Harvest Festival.  In the past, this had meant bringing in food items.  However, this will not be possible at the moment.  I have spoken to 'Turning Tides' and they would welcome financial contributions so they are able to purchase the most needed items to support the local homeless community.  We have decided to make Friday a MUFTI day and would kindly ask that children bring in £1.00 to support the charity.  If your child has PE on this day, could they please wear trainers and home clothes that would be suitable and safe to do PE in.

    Christmas card Designs

The children will be bringing home their Christmas card designs on Thursday.  You can then decide whether you would like to place an online order for any products. If you make an order, the designs will then need to be returned to school on Monday 2nd November so we can send them to the company to be processed.

Badger class will be designing their cards on Thursday and we will then send them home on Friday.  They will not have as much time as the other children to do this, but we do not want them to miss the opportunity.

    Half Term

Next week is our last week before half term.  Friday is our last day and unless major Government changes take place, the children are due back in school on Monday 2nd November

    A couple of reminders/requests

Dogs are not allowed on the School site.  Last week a couple of parents/carers brought their dogs down the path to the main gate.  There is a clear sign at the entrance stating that dogs cannot be brought on the site.  Unless you have an additional adult to look after your dog while children are being collected, please leave dogs at home.

Can we please ask that water bottles are not put inside bookbags.  We are finding that each week, five to six school books are being ruined due to leaks.  Our home reading books cost £5.00 each and we need to do our best to look after them.

    Information and Events

    New Parents for September 2021

West Sussex schools are being advised not to have face to face tours of the school for potential new entrants, so we have uploaded a virtual tour.  If you know anyone who is interested in coming to Field Place, please let them know that the tour is now on the website. Thank you.

    Alien Day

Just another reminder that we have changed the date of the Year Two Alien Day to Wednesday 21st October, rather than this Friday.  This will mean that the whole of year two will be able to join in.

    Christmas Cards

We are working with a company this year so the children can design their own Christmas image for Christmas cards, wrapping paper, mugs etc.  The children will develop their designs in school and then this original artwork will be sent home with details on how you can order products online should you wish to.  The artwork will then need to be returned to school so we can forward it to the company.  The school will also make commission on any sales. We will be sending out more details soon with timings and deadlines.

    INSET DAYS

Following our two INSET days in September, we have three further INSET days planned for this year:

    Monday 4th January 2020

    Thursday 1st April 2021

    Friday 23rd July 2021

    Dear Parents

I would like to thank one of our parents, Mr Anderson and Empire Services for their very generous donation towards our new outside staging area.  The children now have an area to perform poems, sing and enjoy drama and role-play in the fresh air. This further supports our curriculum cornerstone – the power of talk.

    Curriculum Update

Please find attached this half term’s curriculum newsletters.  We have been focussing on phonics, reading, maths, art and PSHE to ensure the children’s return to school has been positive and not overwhelming following the long period of lockdown.

Year one and two children are now bringing home core word sets for you to practise.  Phonics lessons help the children to build words based on their knowledge of the sounds.  Many words cannot be built up with sounds and just have to be learnt by sight.  These are the words we call core words.  If you can practise these regularly with the children using a flashcard – ‘see it, say it’- approach, this will really support their reading fluency.

    Parent’s Evening

We will soon be organising our first parent’s evening of the year.  As the cases of coronavirus rise across the country, we will need to ensure our whole school community remains safe.  This means that parent’s evening meetings will be over the phone this term.  We will arrange these meetings over two weeks, the week before half term and the week after.

    Year Two Alien Day

You should have received a letter last week about our Alien topic day on Friday 16th October. We are looking forward to having an alien themed day and Year Two children are able to come into school wearing an alien costume. Please remember that you don't need to buy a costume unless you wish, as clothes from home are great too. Please don't bring accessories, costume items only.
